Marriott International has signed an agreement with the Balwa Group to launch the first Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Mumbai, The Ballard, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Located amongst Mumbai’s most coveted commercial areas, Ballard Estate is Mumbai’s oldest and most iconic business district. It is steeped in history, dotted with grand buildings of exquisite Victorian architecture, quiet roads with ample greenery and spacious offices. The hotel is anticipated to open in March 2026.

“The introduction of the Tribute Portfolio in the important and dynamic market of Mumbai is an incredible milestone for the brand,” said Ranju Alex, Area Vice President, South Asia, Marriott International. “The growing demand for independent hotel experiences spans across not only leisure travelers, but business travelers as well. Positioned in a prime location with upscale amenities, this hotel will highlight the city’s hidden gems for those who value authentic experiences and crave a connection with the community when traveling. We look forward to the unlimited potential of partnering with the Balwa Group to bring the Tribute Portfolio brand to our guests in Mumbai.”

Rafiq Balwa, Director of Balwa Group said, “We are once again collaborating with Marriott International, this time to unveil the Tribute Portfolio brand in South Mumbai. The hotel is strategically located within the Fort Area, facilitating seamless access to prominent tourist landmarks, cultural institutions, and thriving business hubs. The harmonious fusion of modern architectural design with the district’s storied heritage promises an unparalleled guest experience for travelers immersing themselves in the historical charm of Ballard Estate. We look forward to growing our association further with Marriott International, considering our existing relationship with our hotel, The Fairfield by Marriott Mumbai International Airport.”

This boutique property is anticipated to feature 49 guestrooms, two restaurants, a rooftop bar and a fully equipped fitness center. The strategic location of the hotel allows for convenient access to heritage city landmarks such as the Gateway of India, Port House (Old Bombay Port Trust Building), and the Asiatic Library of Mumbai. It is also near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal, a historic train station designed in extravagant Gothic style, which stands as a majestic ode to the colonial-era splendour of India.

Tribute Portfolio is a growing global family of over 100 characterful, independent hotels across nearly 30 countries and territories drawn together by a passion for captivating design and creating vibrant social scenes for guests and locals alike.
