Mauritius has swiftly returned to normalcy following the lifting of the cyclone warning on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. All economic sectors are back in operation, and the resilience of the island nation is evident as it bounces back from the impact of Cyclone Belal.

Airport operations resumed on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, with the rescheduling of flights. Over 12,000 passengers were expected to arrive on around 50 inbound flights, matched by an equal number of departing flights on the same day. The tourism and airline sectors are working collaboratively to ensure the smooth departure of tourists affected by the cyclone and to welcome those arriving on the island.

Tourism activities, including excursions and visits, have resumed, providing a sense of normalcy and allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of Mauritius once again. Public transport services are operational, facilitating movement across the island.

Crucial services, such as water and electricity, have been largely restored, reflecting the efficient response of authorities in addressing essential needs. The ongoing cleanup efforts across the entire island underscore the commitment to restoring normalcy and ensuring a clean and safe environment for residents and visitors alike.

Remarkably, no incidents have been reported by tourist operators, emphasising their dedication to prioritising the safety of guests throughout the cyclone’s passage. The collective efforts of the government, businesses, and the community have played a pivotal role in managing the aftermath of Cyclone Belal and swiftly returning Mauritius to its vibrant and welcoming state.
