Air Mauritius to commence flights between Mauritius and Chennai on April 12

The flagship carrier of Mauritius, Air Mauritius has officially announced its once-weekly non-stop operations from Mauritius to Chennai from Friday, April 12, 2024, during an official ceremony recently held in Chennai. The airline will fly from Chennai to Mauritius the following day, Saturday, April 13, 2024.

The event was graced by His Excellency Haymandoyal Dillum, High Commissioner of Mauritius to India, alongside Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority and Air Mauritius Board Member, Sixtine Marot, Air Mauritius Head of Marketing and Sales, C.V. Deepak, Director of Chennai International Airport, and other Air Mauritius officials. The airline’s travel trade partners and South Indian press members also attended this momentous occasion.

The flight (MK 746) will depart from SSR International Airport, Mauritius every Friday at 6:30 pm (local time) and land at Chennai International Airport at 01:50 am (local time). The return flight (MK 747) from Chennai International Airport will take off at 03:35 am and reach SSR International Airport, Mauritius at 07:50 am.

This new non-stop flight, Mauritius-Chennai-Mauritius, marks the establishment of a robust link between Mauritius and South India. It also strengthens ties and opens up new avenues of connectivity. Gagan Sharma, Country Manager for Air Mauritius in India, along with his dedicated team in India, has played a pivotal role with unwavering commitment in realising the successful expansion of Air Mauritius in the country.

Laurent Recoura, Officer in Charge of Air Mauritius, stated, “We are pleased to restart our operations from Chennai after four years of absence. Mauritius and India share a special relationship that is built on the foundation of people-to-people ties. With its idyllic sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and thriving marine life, visitors can expect to relish in Mauritius’ natural wonders, as well as its rich cultural heritage, which reflects its history and deep-rooted cultural ties with India. Both countries are united by ancestry, language, and geography.”

Arvind Bundhun highlighted the significance of this milestone, stating, “The reinstated flight from Chennai to Mauritius is a significant step forward in facilitating travel for visitors from southern India. We extend our sincere gratitude to Air Mauritius for spearheading this initiative, which not only serves to meet the growing demand for seamless travel experiences but also fosters stronger ties and greater connectivity between our two nations. This renewed connection opens doors to endless possibilities, inviting travellers to explore the unparalleled beauty and hospitality of Mauritius like never before.

Currently, Air Mauritius operates six times weekly from Mumbai and three times weekly from Delhi.
