In response to the rising number of dengue fever cases in Indonesia, the Bali regional government has issued an advisory for foreign tourists visiting the island to receive dengue fever vaccinations.

Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, the acting head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Bali Health Agency, emphasised the importance of these vaccinations, stating that while they are not yet mandatory, they are highly recommended for tourists to ensure their health, especially when traveling to endemic areas.

“The dengue fever vaccinations are highly suggested, not only for tourists but also all Balinese people, so that they can protect themselves from dengue infections,” Susanti stated, as quoted by local media.

The advisory comes in light of an increasing rate of dengue fever cases nationwide in Indonesia. While the Bali regional government does not have specific data on the number of tourists exposed to dengue fever, the overall rate in the province has been quite high, with a total of 4,177 cases and five deaths reported from January to April 2024.

Foreign tourists planning to visit Bali are encouraged to consult with healthcare providers regarding dengue fever vaccinations and other preventive measures to ensure a safe and healthy trip.
