Sikkim Tourism dept issues advisory on fraudulent travel agencies

In response to a surge in complaints about fraudulent online travel agencies, the Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation Department has issued a crucial advisory for tourists planning to visit the state. The Tourism and Civil Aviation Department emphasised the importance of verifying the authenticity of travel agencies when booking tours online.

The advisory, issued by Bandana Chhetri, Additional Secretary, Tourism and Civil Aviation Department of the Sikkim Government, mentioned, “Tourists visiting Sikkim are hereby advised that while booking tours online, they may kindly check the authenticity of travel agencies they are booking with, as the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim has been receiving many complaints against online travel agencies that are operating fraudulently”

To avoid complications and ensure a safe and enjoyable travel experience, the tourism department advised that tourists book their tours only through agencies registered with the Sikkim Tourism and Civil Aviation Department. “Further, it is advised that tours to Sikkim may be booked only through travel agencies registered with the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Government of Sikkim to avoid such complications. The names of registered travel agents are available on the departmental website www.sikkimtourism.gov.in,” it read.

This advisory is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to protect tourists and maintain Sikkim’s reputation as a premier travel destination. By following these guidelines, visitors can ensure a hassle-free and memorable experience in Sikkim.
