The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, organised a mass yoga session at Sun Dial Lawns, Qutub Minar Complex, New Delhi, on June 21, 2024, from 07:00 AM to 08:00 AM to celebrate the International Day of Yoga. The theme for this year’s event was “Yoga for Self and Society.”


Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Honb’le Minister of Tourism & Culture, participated as the chief guest and addressed the participants and media about the importance of yoga in daily life for individuals and society. Smt. V. Vidyavathi, Secretary (Tourism), along with other senior officials from the Ministry of Tourism, were also present at the event, which was organised in a grand manner with the coordination of various agencies.

Shri Gopal Rishi, a renowned yoga expert, and his team demonstrated various yoga practices and discussed the different aspects and significance of yoga. The session was well-received and saw enthusiastic participation from stakeholders in the travel trade and tourism industry, students from Yuva Tourism Clubs, specially-abled children, officials from the Ministry of Tourism, and local residents.
In addition to the event in New Delhi, yoga sessions were also organised at several prominent tourist destinations in the Northern Region, including Agra, Varanasi, and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh; Jaipur and Jodhpur in Rajasthan; Chamkaur Sahib in Punjab; Forest Research Institute and Doon Sanskriti School (Tribal) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand; Chandigarh; Shimla in Himachal Pradesh; Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir; and Ladakh.
Many star-classified hotels recognised by the Ministry of Tourism also conducted yoga sessions within their premises for their staff and guests, further promoting the practice of yoga across the region.
