The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has announced a new mandatory requirement for all foreign visitors entering the island, effective from October 1, 2024. According to the advisory issued on August 5, 2024, all foreigners (excluding residents) visiting Zanzibar through the seaport or airport will be required to have valid Inbound Travel Insurance, covering their stay for up to 92 days.

This new policy has been introduced to ensure the safety and well-being of travellers, providing comprehensive coverage for emergencies such as repatriation, evacuation, and other contingencies. It reflects Zanzibar’s commitment to mitigating potential risks for visitors and enhancing the overall travel experience.

To comply with the requirement, all prospective visitors must obtain suitable inbound travel insurance exclusively from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. A QR code will be provided for the insurance purchase, which must be completed before travellers embark on their journey to the island. Failure to adhere to this rule may result in entry denial at immigration checkpoints.

The government has emphasized the importance of this measure, aimed at safeguarding the interests of both visitors and the island’s tourism industry. Officials have urged foreign visitors to make the necessary preparations in advance to avoid disruptions during their trip.

This travel advisory will be subject to periodic reviews as needed.
