VietJet strengthens its leadership team with new appointments

Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company has announced the appointment of its new Chairwoman and CEO at a ceremony held during the implementation of its 2023 plan in Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao has undertaken the role of Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, succeeding Madam Nguyen Thanh Ha. Meanwhile, the company’s Managing Director, Dinh Viet Phuong, has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The decision is part of the company’s growth strategy, aimed at expanding and developing the business in the future. The new appointments signify the continued advancement of Vietjet’s senior leaders.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao is a visionary entrepreneur and the founder of Vietjet, a leading airline in Vietnam that strives to fulfil people’s domestic and international flying dreams. As Vietjet’s Vice Chairwoman of the Board of Directors and President and CEO, she has been instrumental in driving the airline’s growth and success for many years. Madam Thao is widely regarded as Vietnam’s and Southeast Asia’s first self-made female billionaire, a testament to her business acumen and leadership abilities. She has left a lasting impression on Vietjet, along with former Chairwoman Nguyen Thanh Ha, by spearheading bold initiatives and revolutionary changes in the aviation industry. Vietjet has emerged as a dynamic and innovative airline under Madam Thao’s leadership.

Dinh Viet Phuong has been an integral part of Vietjet since its inception, and he currently serves as Permanent Vice President and Managing Director, a position he has held since October 2020. Phuong has played an important role in Vietjet’s growth and success during his tenure there. Despite the challenges that the aviation industry has faced as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, Phuong has been instrumental in guiding Vietjet through these difficulties and emerging stronger than before. His contributions were critical to the company’s resilience and eventual recovery. Phuong previously held leadership positions in a number of large corporations. He graduated from Vietnam Maritime University with a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Business Administration.

Vietjet transported 20.5 million passengers on 116,000 flights in 2022, representing a 20 per cent increase in domestic passengers over the same period in 2019. The total assets increased by 30 per cent to more than VND 67,000 billion, while the long-term debt-to-equity and liquidity ratios remained stable at 0.7 and 1.3, respectively, which were regarded as positive indicators in the aviation industry. In 2022, the airline paid a total of VND 4,349 billion in direct and indirect taxes, fees, and charges. This year is expected to be one of strong growth in international air transport, providing opportunities for airlines with strong financial and operational capacity such as Vietjet.

The appointments of experienced and enthusiastic leaders promise to bring Vietjet into a new stage of growth and development, contributing more and more to the innovation of aviation and promoting the economic development of Vietnam internationally.
