Tourism Australia has appointed Robin Mack as its new Managing Director, confirming his permanent role after he served in an interim capacity following the departure of Phillipa Harrison, who stepped down in August 2025. The appointment marks a significant new chapter for the Australian tourism industry.

Mack brings nearly three decades of experience in the global travel and tourism sector and has been associated with Tourism Australia for over a decade. Most recently, he served as Executive General Manager – Global Markets & Business Events, where he oversaw the organisation’s presence across 16 key international markets, including Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, the United Kingdom, the United States and Vietnam.

In his previous role, Mack was also responsible for leading Tourism Australia’s commercial team, overseeing global distribution development and strategic partnerships, as well as Business Events Australia, strengthening the country’s positioning across both leisure and MICE segments.

Prior to joining Tourism Australia in 2012, Mack built a strong foundation across travel retail, wholesale and airline sectors. His earlier career includes roles with leading carriers such as British Airways and Qantas, before he transitioned into destination marketing.

With his extensive industry knowledge, collaborative leadership style and international market expertise, Mack is expected to be a strong advocate for Australian tourism operators and destinations, further enhancing Australia’s presence and competitiveness on the global stage.

Commenting on the appointment, Don Farrell, Senator for South Australia and Minister for Trade and Tourism and Special Minister of State, said, “With almost 30 years experience in tourism, and many years overseeing Tourism Australia’s operation in key markets around the world, Robin is well placed to take up the position of Managing Director. I congratulate Mr Mack on his appointment and look forward to working closely with him.”
