Marriott International has announced the rebranding of the iconic JW Marriott Mauritius Resort to The St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius, with the grand opening scheduled for May 6, 2025. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Le Morne Brabant Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the resort promises to usher in a new era of refined elegance and bespoke service on the island.
The transition to the St. Regis brand reflects a strategic move to further elevate the resort’s luxury positioning and cater to discerning global travellers. “Transitioning to the St. Regis brand reflects our commitment to providing an elevated luxury resort option for visitors to the island. It allows us to expand our offerings and build the resort’s reputation among international luxury travellers,” the brand said in a press statement.
Bringing with it the timeless glamour and heritage of the St. Regis name, the reimagined resort will introduce signature rituals and bespoke services synonymous with the brand.
“The evolution of The St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius reflects the brand’s dedication to elevating the world’s most exclusive destinations, and our commitment to the growth of the St. Regis resort portfolio. Joining St. Regis Hotels & Resorts will allow guests to embrace the resort’s timeless glamour through the St. Regis hallmarks of personalised service and signature rituals. We look forward to ushering in this new chapter,” said Helen Leighton, Vice President, Luxury Brands, Europe, Middle East and Africa at Marriott International.
As part of a rebrand from JW Marriott Mauritius Resort to The St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius, the all-suite property has undergone thoughtful enhancements, including elevating the dining experience at the signature Le Manoir restaurant, presenting refined Mauritian curries infused with local ingredients. The restaurant’s renovated French-inspired La Patisserie offers handcrafted pastries including the Signature Exotic, a tropical delight of creamy passion fruit, banana and mango, topped with poached pineapple, vanilla and coconut mousse.
Later this year, the resort’s oceanfront villa will be reimagined as The St. Regis Grand Beachfront Villa. Inspired by private retreats favoured by the brand’s founding family, the Astors, the 1,659 square meter villa will be one of the largest in the Indian Ocean accommodating up to 16 guests with direct access to the beach and features four guestrooms each with their own deck, indoor and outdoor living spaces, three plunge pools and an infinity pool.
The St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius, will honour the brand’s signature tradition by marking the transition from day to night with a celebratory champagne sabering at 7 p.m., set against the stunning backdrop of the setting sun. Guests can enjoy an Afternoon Tea by the Sea, offering an array of the finest teas, either by the beach or in the shade of the grand colonial veranda at La Patisserie.
The world-renowned Bloody Mary cocktail, which was first created at The St. Regis New York’s King Cole Bar in 1934, will be presented with local flavours and ingredients. ‘L’île Mary’ will feature local Cane Rhum, slowly infused with curry leaves with a touch of mango vinegar, freshly pressed lemon juice, black pepper and cayenne with a ripe tomato juice base and crowned by masala foam.
The legendary St. Regis Butler Service, a personalised hallmark of the brand for more than a century, will ensure that each guest’s individual preferences are anticipated at every turn.
The St. Regis Le Morne Resort offers crafted experiences to connect with the destination, culture and cuisine. As part of the Family Traditions programming, children can enjoy a magical experience flying colourful kites along Le Morne beach, renowned for its gentle breezy days. Other activities include private kite surfing lessons and horse riding.
Guests can embark on guided walks on Le Morne mountain and enjoy light refreshments at the first plateau overlooking the lush landscape and azure waters whilst the more adventurous can hike to its summit. Culinary workshops will include the Chef’s Table, a private dining experience guided by local flavours and heritage dishes from herbs and produce forged from Caroline’s Garden, a space named after Caroline Astor.
Launching later this year, The St. Regis Le Morne Pirogue, a beautifully renovated traditional Mauritian boat, will set sail offering family fishing trips, private excursions of the lagoon and romantic sunset cruises, complete with refreshments.
Le Morne Peninsula is one of the most captivating sites for water sports activities in Mauritius and is a favourite spot for the world’s elite kite surf aficionados. Enthusiasts can venture to the thrilling, world-famous ‘One Eye’ wave or enjoy the site’s other smaller wave spots. Those preferring more serene water sport pursuits can embark on snorkeling and kayaking adventures through Le Morne’s turquoise lagoon.
“Known for its breathtaking natural beauty, we are thrilled to be opening The St. Regis Le Morne Resort in Mauritius and present a distinct and elevated view of coastal luxury. Situated at the best address on the island, our resort offers an unparalleled location on the breathtaking Le Morne Peninsula, featuring an expansive, pristine stretch of golden sandy beach. From enhanced dining experiences to curated signature rituals, every detail has been crafted to celebrate the island’s beauty while honouring the traditions of St. Regis,” said Mathieu de Tonnac, General Manager, The St. Regis Le Morne Resort, Mauritius.
