Following recent incidents of in-flight fires on international airlines, suspected to be linked to power bank usage, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited has announced new safety measures to protect passengers and crew.
Effective March 15, 2025, the airline will prohibit the use of power banks onboard all flights. However, passengers will still be allowed to carry power banks in their hand luggage, provided they adhere to capacity limits set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).
These regulations align with international aviation safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which prohibit power banks in checked baggage due to the risk of lithium battery overheating.
Thai Airways has urged passengers to cooperate with the new regulations and emphasized its commitment to passenger safety.
