Take a New Turn in Arunachal

The Department of Tourism, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, has unveiled its latest tourism brand campaign, ‘Take a New Turn in Arunachal’, positioning the state as India’s ultimate frontier for discovery, cultural immersion and experiential travel. The campaign was launched at Arunachal House, New Delhi, by Pasang Dorjee Sona, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Education, RWD, Library and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

Beyond Myths and Mountains

Anchored in the State’s refreshed brand identity “Beyond Myths and Mountains,” the campaign invites travellers to look beyond scenic valleys and monasteries to uncover the rich stories and human experiences that define Arunachal’s iconic destinations, Tawang, Ziro, Anini, Namsai, Dong and Mechukha. This narrative underscores that in Arunachal, travel is not only about destinations but the unexpected moments, local interactions and deep cultural connections that await every visitor.

Land of Depth, Diversity and Distinction

Speaking at the launch, Minister Sona described Arunachal Pradesh as a land of extraordinary depth and diversity. He said, “Arunachal is a region as old as history, with rising mountain peaks, colourful vegetation, Buddhist heritage, snow-capped landscapes, diverse tribal culture, and breathtaking biodiversity. It has all the ingredients required to be a top tourist destination, from heritage and wildlife to adventure, nature, unique festivals and distinct culture. The very idea of Arunachal Pradesh has resplendence ingrained in it, and the experience of this land is no different.”‘Take a New Turn in Arunachal’ campaign

The Campaign

‘Take a New Turn in Arunachal’ reframes travel as an invitation to move beyond conventional sightseeing and discover stories rather than just sights. Each destination featured in the campaign functions as a narrative anchor, reflecting a distinct facet of the state’s experiential appeal:

Tawang: Spiritual heritage and Himalayan vistas

Ziro: Cultural rhythms and indigenous landscapes

Anini: Land of lakes and waterfalls

Namsai: Spirituality and riverine culture

Dong: India’s first sunrise and untamed beauty

Mechukha: Where Adventure Meets Tranquillity

These experiences are brought alive through campaign films and print creatives that focus on warm human encounters, spontaneous moments and authentic local interactions, reinforcing Arunachal’s positioning as a destination of discovery through lived experience.

Tourism Growth and Policy Momentum

Arunachal Pradesh’s tourism sector has witnessed strong post-pandemic momentum. In 2023 and 2024, the state recorded over one million tourist visits annually, marking a significant increase over pre-pandemic levels. This growth has been driven by a holistic approach combining strategic branding, improved connectivity and diversified experiential offerings.

Under its new tourism policy, the state government is prioritising road and air connectivity, upgrading visitor infrastructure and expanding accommodation capacity by approximately 50 per cent. The policy also promotes a wide range of tourism segments, including farm tourism, spiritual tourism, adventure, eco-tourism, tribal tourism and border tourism, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a multi-dimensional destination.

“We refreshed our logo and branding with ‘Beyond Myths and Mountains’ last year,” Minister Sona added. “This campaign builds on that foundation. We are confident that this initiative will positively project Destination Arunachal in national and global tourism markets and help us emerge as one of India’s most sought-after destinations in the coming years.”

Strengthening Partnerships and Market Reach

Aligned to this vision, the State Tourism Department is also forging partnerships with travel platforms and tour operators to broaden Arunachal’s reach, especially in untapped source markets, while streamlining traveller access and enhancing on-ground experiences.

Adventure Tourism on the Global Map

The campaign narrative is further reinforced by Arunachal Pradesh’s growing positioning as a global adventure tourism destination. In November 2026, the state will host a new expedition race presented by the Adventure Racing World Series (ARWS), placing Arunachal alongside some of the world’s most iconic adventure landscapes, including Chile, Brazil and New Zealand. The race will serve as a qualifier for the 2027 Adventure Racing World Championship, with the winning team earning direct entry.

Pasang Dorjee Sona said the Adventure@Mechukha vision aims to establish Mechukha as a premier global adventure hub, inviting international teams to experience the region’s rugged landscapes, snow-capped Himalayan terrain and rich cultural traditions. He added that Arunachal offers “something for every adventure seeker,” with its natural diversity and community values delivering a life-enriching experience while showcasing the state’s potential as a world-class adventure destination.

The race is being driven by Indian adventure specialists NthAdventure, whose founders have spent over a decade building the sport at grassroots and national levels, further underlining Arunachal’s emergence on the global adventure tourism map.
