In a significant step toward enhancing bilateral tourism between India and Cambodia, the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) and the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents (CATA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during a visit by the TAFI North India chapter to Cambodia from August 14 to 18, 2024.
The MOU, aimed at fostering tourism promotion between the two nations, was signed by Anil Kalsi, Vice President of TAFI, and Chhay Sivlin, President of CATA. The event was witnessed by several prominent figures, including Achal Rai Krishna, Joint Treasurer of TAFI, Khushvinder Sarna, Chairman of TAFI North India, Dinessh Kumar, Honorary Secretary of TAFI North India, and distinguished Cambodian dignitaries such as H.E. Ngov Sengkak, Deputy Governor of Siem Reap Province.
The signing ceremony was followed by a vibrant cultural program and a detailed destination presentation, highlighting the rich cultural and touristic synergies between India and Cambodia.
This visit was part of the opening of the Cambodia India Tourism Year 2024, where a delegation of 38 TAFI members joined their Cambodian counterparts in celebrating this important milestone.
During their stay, the delegation explored the cities of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, engaging in an extensive product knowledge enhancement program. Their itinerary included visits to key cultural landmarks, reinforcing their commitment to advancing tourism collaborations. In Phnom Penh, they toured the renowned Nagaworld hotel, gaining insights into the region’s luxury hospitality offerings. They also visited a traditional silk-making unit, observed the intricate silk production process, and enjoyed an authentic Cambodian lunch. Their exploration continued with visits to the National Museum and the Royal Palace, both rich in historical significance.
In Siem Reap, the delegation visited the iconic Angkor Wat temple complex, one of Southeast Asia’s most important archaeological sites, and marvelled at its grandeur. Their journey also included a visit to Kulen National Park, where they witnessed over 1,000 carvings of yonis and lingas (shivlings) engraved in the riverbed, and a visit to the Floating Village on Tonle Sap Lake, offering a glimpse into the traditional Cambodian way of life.
This visit not only deepened the delegates’ understanding of Cambodia’s tourism potential but also underscored the strong cultural ties and opportunities for collaboration between India and Cambodia in the travel and tourism sectors.
