The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) organised a special workshop on cybercrime and cybersecurity, led by Dr. Varun Kapoor, Special Director General of Police, at the Jal Auditorium on 8 April. The workshop aimed to educate travel industry professionals about growing cyber threats and the importance of digital vigilance.

The session was attended by key members of TAAI and the travel trade fraternity, including TAAI MP & CG Chapter Chairman Hemendra Singh Jadon, Munish Kumar from Air India, and Arvind Rathore from IndiGo Airlines, alongside other local travel agents and stakeholders.

During the workshop, Dr. Kapoor emphasised the rising use of digital platforms such as smartphones, social media, and online shopping, which has in turn led to a surge in cyber crimes. He highlighted that children and women remain the most vulnerable groups.

Dr. Kapoor warned against accepting friend requests from unknown persons, sharing personal or financial information online, clicking on suspicious links, and installing unauthorised apps. He urged participants to avoid using public Wi-Fi and to stay alert to scams involving impersonation by so-called bank officials.

He also pointed out the increasing incidents of “digital arrests” and other online threats, underscoring the need for preventive awareness. He concluded the session by engaging with participants in an open Q&A, clarifying doubts and providing practical tips on online safety.

The TAAI cybersecurity initiative reflects the growing need to protect travel professionals and their clients from the ever-evolving landscape of cyber threats.
