TAAI Elections 2024–26 – Iqbal Mulla envisions a revitalised future

TAAI Elections 2024 – 2026, Iqbal Mulla

As the Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) prepares for the 2024–26 elections on September 30, 2024, former President Iqbal Mulla strongly bids to return to the leadership helm. With a vision rooted in transformation, Mulla aims to address the evolving challenges of the travel and tourism industry, reinvigorating TAAI and restoring its prominence.

Having previously led TAAI from 2011 to 2014, Iqbal Mulla’s impressive past achievements and strategic plans offer a promising path forward, presenting a strong case for his leadership.

A Call for Change

Under the banner “Change is Eminent,” Mulla’s campaign emphasises the urgent need for collective action to revive the association. Leading the TAAI Premier Team (soon to be officially announced), Mulla is determined to give a platform to voices within the industry and work relentlessly to benefit TAAI members. His message resonates deeply, “The industry is facing an unprecedented crisis, and it requires unprecedented support and solutions to navigate this period.”

Strategic Goals for the Future

Mulla’s agenda revolves around several key priorities:

  • Reviving the India Travel Trade Expo (ITTE): A significant initiative he previously spearheaded, the ITTE served as a critical hub for industry networking and growth. He plans to bring it back to enhance business opportunities.
  • Reintroducing the TAAI Travel Awards: Celebrating and recognising the excellence within the travel and tourism industry will encourage innovation and dedication, essential for the sector’s growth.
  • Supporting Regional Chapters: Boosting TAAI’s revenue to help regional chapters organise impactful events is central to Mulla’s plan. He stresses the importance of ensuring that all members across regions benefit equally from TAAI’s resources.
  • Broadening Membership: Mulla aims to extend membership invitations to both national and international tourism boards. Expanding the membership base, he believes, will foster collaboration and strengthen TAAI’s influence.
  • Advocating for Industry Solutions: Mulla plans to draft a white paper addressing unresolved industry issues to present to central and state governments. He highlights the need for effective advocacy on behalf of TAAI members.

Proven Leadership and Legacy

Mulla’s prior presidency, from 2011 to 2014, saw landmark initiatives like the launch of ITTE and the TAAI Travel Awards. He successfully defended commission rates in negotiations with APJC and addressed service tax concerns, ensuring benefits for TAAI members. His leadership also extended to organising domestic and international conventions and marking TAAI’s 50th anniversary by honouring past presidents.

As the founding member and Treasurer of FAITH (Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality Industry) and a key figure at the Indian Merchant Chamber (IMC), Mulla’s impact on the industry has been far-reaching.

A Promising Future

With a strong track record and a clear, focused vision for TAAI’s future, Iqbal Mulla presents a compelling case for his leadership. His dedication to TAAI and commitment to addressing the challenges of today positions him as a transformative figure, offering the association the revitalisation it needs.
