Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) has expanded its Air Rail offering with the addition of Grindelwald as a new destination, further strengthening connectivity to the Bernese Alps for international travellers.
The new connection has been introduced in collaboration with Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and Jungfrau Railways. With this addition, the SWISS Air Rail network now spans 25 destinations across Switzerland, Germany and Austria.
The expansion builds on the integration of Interlaken into the network in December 2022 and extends SWISS’s reach deeper into the Bernese Oberland region. The partnership with Jungfrau Railways enables seamless rail connectivity between Interlaken and Grindelwald, offering travellers easier access to one of Switzerland’s most iconic alpine destinations.
Heike Birlenbach, Chief Customer Officer, SWISS, said, “Grindelwald and the Jungfrau region represent what many international guests associate with Switzerland: breathtaking alpine landscapes, unspoiled nature, and authentic Swiss experiences. The appeal is correspondingly strong – a large proportion of our guests come from abroad, particularly from the UK, the USA, and Asia. Our long-haul network connects directly here, bringing the world even closer to this region.”
Remo Käser, Head of Marketing & Sales at Jungfrau Railways, added,“The Jungfrau region and the Jungfraujoch – Top of Europe – rank among Switzerland’s most visited destinations. We are delighted that international guests can now travel even more comfortably, feel at home in this unique mountain landscape from the very start, and easily discover the highlights of the Jungfrau region.”
Passengers using the SWISS Air Rail service benefit from an integrated travel experience, with a single booking covering both flight and rail journeys. Boarding passes are valid for the entire journey, while rail tickets offer flexibility for use from the day before departure to the day after arrival. The service also includes guaranteed connections in case of delays.
Additionally, members of the Miles & More loyalty programme can earn miles and points on Air Rail journeys, while SWISS Business and First Class passengers enjoy first-class rail travel on SBB services.
