St. Regis Hotels and Resorts has marked its entry into Hungary with the opening of The St. Regis Budapest, housed within the landmark Klotild Palace. The debut introduces the brand’s signature rituals, bespoke service and refined luxury to the Hungarian capital, positioning the property as a significant addition to the country’s high-end hospitality landscape.
Located close to the Danube and key attractions, the hotel occupies a restored Belle Époque monument that reflects Budapest’s architectural and cultural legacy. Originally commissioned by Her Imperial and Royal Highness Princess Klotild of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and designed by architects Flóris Korb and Kálmán Giergl, the Neo-Baroque palace was conceived as a ceremonial gateway to Pest. The structure, known for its 48-metre tower and ornate detailing, is recognised as a protected UNESCO-listed architectural site.
The property features 63 guestrooms and 39 suites, including the Klotild Tower Suite and a two-bedroom Presidential Suite spanning 169 square metres with views of the Danube, Elizabeth Bridge and Citadella. Interiors draw inspiration from Budapest’s artistic heritage and its historic connection to opera, with design elements reflecting Art Nouveau influences, Hungarian tilework and refined brass detailing. All rooms are complemented by the brand’s signature St. Regis Butler Service.
Public spaces and interiors take cues from the Danube’s movement and the city’s famed thermal bath culture, incorporating fluid patterns, soft tones, ceramics and ornamental motifs. A central design highlight is the grand staircase, envisioned as a “vertical river of light,” with sculptural elements and a glass ceiling accented by crown-inspired chandeliers.
Dining and social spaces include The St. Regis Bar, featuring a theatrical design inspired by the Hungarian State Opera House, alongside a curated cocktail programme led by Head Mixologist Norbert Tengely. The signature cocktail, “The Crown Mary,” pays homage to both the palace’s royal heritage and the legacy of The St. Regis New York.
The hotel’s culinary offering also includes 99 Sushi Bar & Restaurant, presenting Japanese cuisine with a contemporary approach, and Klotild Patisserie, which blends Hungarian and French-Viennoiserie traditions. Guests can also experience brand rituals such as Afternoon Tea and Champagne Sabrage in the Atrium.
Wellness facilities include The St. Regis Spa, featuring an indoor pool, hammam, Finnish sauna and treatment rooms, with products from Sothys and Hungarian skincare brand Omorovicza. A fitness studio equipped with modern facilities is located on the sixth floor.
Commenting on the opening, George Fleck, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader, St. Regis Hotels and Resorts, said, “The St. Regis Budapest stands as a remarkable expression of architectural heritage, one that feels inherently aligned with the legacy of St. Regis. The Astors, our brand’s founding family, were drawn to places where culture, society, and celebration converged, and Budapest embodies that spirit. Bringing the House of Astor to Klotild Palace is a natural extension of that legacy, introducing our signature rituals, legendary St. Regis Butler Service, and enduring glamour to one of Europe’s most storied capitals, where every moment is designed to be celebrated.”
