Six Senses has announced the signing of Six Senses Beijing, marking the brand’s entry into China’s capital with a new urban retreat in the Haidian District. The hotel management agreement has been signed with Beijing Zhongguancun Avenue Construction & Development Group as part of the broader regeneration of Liulangzhuang, an area evolving into a hub for cultural programming and international exchange.
The development is set within the historic Three Hills and Five Gardens landscape, closely associated with the Summer Palace and the imperial retreats of the Qing dynasty, adding strong cultural and heritage value to the project.
Neil Palmer, Chief Operating Officer of Six Senses, said, “Six Senses has always sought destinations with a strong story. The setting for Six Senses Beijing is extraordinary. The Three Hills and Five Gardens area has deep cultural and historical significance, and we are honored to be part of Liulangzhuang’s revival. Together with our partners, we look forward to creating an urban retreat where guests can connect with the spirit of Beijing in a way that feels intrinsically Six Senses, both restorative and regenerative.”
ix Senses Beijing will be the brand’s second property in Greater China, alongside Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain, as it continues to expand its presence across key global destinations.
The project will feature 75 guest rooms and suites, designed to reinterpret traditional siheyuan courtyard homes with a contemporary approach. The layout will incorporate waterways, lotus ponds and private gardens, reflecting the site’s historic character as former imperial rice paddies.
Dining and public spaces will be spread across waterside pavilions, connected by boat access and hutong-style pathways, while a two-storey residence will cater to private events and exclusive gatherings.
Wellness will remain central to the offering, with signature Six Senses programs including personalised screenings, biohacking experiences and sleep-focused therapies. Facilities will also include the brand’s Earth Lab and Alchemy Bar, focusing on sustainability and hands-on guest engagement.
Cheng Yue, Chairman of Beijing Haidian Urban Renewal Development added, “Six Senses Beijing reflects a shared commitment from all partners to deliver a project of extraordinary quality, with a deep commitment to wellness and sustainability throughout. From design through to construction, a seamless journey from vision to operation will draw on the strengths of the Six Senses brand to shape a destination of enduring value for Beijing.”
The signing further strengthens Six Senses’ global footprint within the IHG Hotels & Resorts portfolio, which currently includes 27 properties across 20 countries, with continued expansion planned across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
