Salzburg to offer free public transport for tourists from May 2025 with Guest Mobility Ticket

Salzburg Guest Mobility Ticket

In a major move towards promoting sustainable tourism, the Province of Salzburg in Austria has announced the launch of a new ‘Guest Mobility Ticket,’ which will grant tourists complimentary access to the region’s entire public transport system starting 1 May 2025.

This initiative is designed to encourage visitors to choose eco-friendly transport options during their stay, helping to reduce road congestion, minimise environmental impact, and enhance overall travel convenience. The free mobility pass will cover a wide range of public transport modes, including city buses, regional services, S-Bahn lines, regional and long-distance trains, as well as Salzburg Verkehr shuttle services.

Tourists staying overnight in any part of the Salzburg province will be eligible for the benefit, receiving the mobility ticket either digitally or in paper form upon check-in or pre-check-in at their accommodation. Valid throughout the duration of a guest’s stay, the ticket offers seamless, flexible travel across the entire region.

The Guest Mobility Ticket will be financed through a mobility fee, which is tied to Salzburg’s existing overnight accommodation tax. Currently set at €0.50 per person, per night for guests aged 15 and above, the fee will be increased to €1.10 starting 1 May 2027 to support the long-term sustainability of the program.

The initiative will be financed through a mobility fee levied on all guests who are subject to the overnight accommodation tax. Currently, the fee is set at €0.50 per person, per night for individuals aged 15 and above. Starting from 1 May 2027, this fee will rise to €1.10 per person, per night.
