Renfe to launch direct high-speed AVE service linking Seville and Barcelona from April 23

renfe-ave

Renfe has announced the launch of a new direct high-speed AVE service between Seville and Barcelona, offering travellers a faster and more convenient option between the two major cities. Starting April 23, 2025, the new route will eliminate the need for transfers in Madrid, significantly streamlining long-distance rail journeys across southern and northeastern Spain.

The new service, designed to enhance connectivity and passenger comfort, will operate daily. Trains depart Seville-Santa Justa at 6:00 AM and arrive at Barcelona-Sants by 12:41 PM. The journey continues to Figueres, near the French border, reaching the final stop at 1:44 PM. Passengers can board or disembark along the way at several intermediate stops, including Córdoba, Puertollano, Ciudad Real, Zaragoza, Lleida, Tarragona, and Girona.

In the opposite direction, departures from Barcelona-Sants are scheduled for 4:58 PM (except Saturdays), with arrival in Seville at 10:49 PM. The direct route boasts the fastest journey time of five hours and 48 minutes, with fares starting from approximately €100.

This new addition will complement Renfe’s existing six daily services on the same corridor, which currently require at least one transfer and take between six and seven hours. These alternate options will remain available, offering passengers a broader range of travel times and pricing.
