Rail Europe, the leading distributor of European train tickets, has announced an addition to its portfolio with new train routes connecting Slovenia to major European cities. Available through its partner solutions RailAPI, RailFlash, and RailPortal, these routes open up Slovenia’s vibrant destinations to partners worldwide, complementing the existing offers on raileurope.com and the Rail Europe app.
Travel agencies and partners will gain access to an expanded network of ÖBB-operated routes, offering greater connectivity across Europe. These routes include Trieste to and from Ljubljana, with stops in key Slovenian towns such as Celje, Pragersko, Lasko, Zidani Most, Trbovlje, and Zagorje. Other routes include Graz to and from Ljubljana, Vienna to and from Ljubljana, and Vienna to and from Maribor. Additional connections will link Zurich, Munich, and Budapest to Ljubljana, providing seamless travel options for both leisure and business travellers.
Jürgen Witte, Chief Product and Technology Officer of Rail Europe, commented, “Adding Slovenia to our rail network marks an important milestone in Rail Europe’s mission to offer the best rail solutions to our partners and create new travel opportunities. These new routes further enhance our capability to provide seamless, sustainable, and comfortable travel options across Europe, enabling travellers to access Slovenia like never before. Introduced last year on our B2B partner solutions platform, the Multi-Providers feature allows partners to book train tickets with different providers under a single journey, and we continue to expand our offerings to unlock endless possibilities.”
Known for its beautiful mountains and lakes, delightful wines, ancient castles and captivating cities, Slovenia’s tourism has reached record-breaking levels, reflecting its growing appeal among global travellers. According to the Slovenian Government, 2023 was the most successful year for tourism, with 6.19 million visitors (+5.5% vs. 2022) and 16.13 million overnight stays (+3.5%). Foreign tourists accounted for 72% of all overnight stays, with Ljubljana experiencing a 20% increase in visitors. Germany, Austria, and Italy were the top inbound markets, highlighting the demand for enhanced rail connectivity to the country.
The new routes not only connect Slovenia to neighbouring countries but also offer a gateway to discovering the wider European continent. With the added convenience of Rail Europe’s Multi-Providers feature, travel partners can now book multi-leg journeys seamlessly across various European rail networks. For those keen on exploring more of Slovenia and its stunning landscapes, the Eurail/Interrail Slovenia Pass provides an excellent way to travel seamlessly across the country.
