The Republic of Palau has introduced a 30-day visa-free entry scheme for Indian citizens, marking a significant step forward in bilateral relations and tourism diplomacy. The move is expected to boost Indian tourist arrivals to this idyllic Pacific Island nation, renowned for its diverse marine life, pristine landscapes, and rich cultural heritage.
Located in the western Pacific Ocean, southwest of Guam, Palau, also known as Belau, comprises over 300 islands within Micronesia. Its UNESCO-listed Rock Islands, world-famous dive sites like Blue Corner and Jellyfish Lake, and numerous World War II relics highlight Palau’s unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue. With a long-standing focus on ecological preservation and sustainable development, Palau offers a distinctive mix of adventure, culture, and conservation.
Dr Neeraj A. Sharma, Honorary Consul General of Palau to India said, “Indian travellers are looking for new and offbeat destinations. With connectivity options through airlines like United, China Airlines, Qantas, Japan Airlines, Nauru Airlines, and Hong Kong Airlines, Palau is fast becoming one of the most sought-after destinations for Indian tourists.”
Currently, there are no direct flights from India to Palau, but convenient connections are available via major Southeast Asian hubs, including Manila, Taipei, and Seoul. The proposed launch of Air India’s direct flights to the Philippines will open a promising new gateway through Manila, one of the primary transit points to Palau.
Dr Sharma has been instrumental in strengthening tourism ties between India and Palau, spearheading awareness campaigns and forging partnerships with Indian tour operators to promote this pristine destination.
