Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has officially christened its newest ship, Norwegian Luna, in Miami, marking a key milestone in the company’s fleet expansion and reinforcing its presence in the Caribbean cruise market.
The christening ceremony, attended by over 2,000 guests, took place at PortMiami and followed traditional maritime customs, including the ceremonial breaking of a bottle against the ship’s hull. The event featured Norwegian Luna’s godmother and acclaimed street artist ELLE, who also unveiled the ship’s signature hull artwork titled La Luna.
Marc Kazlauskas, President of Norwegian Cruise Line, said, “Norwegian Luna represents the evolution of NCL, a brand built on freedom, flexibility and delivering experiences that resonate with every type of traveler. Curated to deliver attractions for families with the NCL-exclusive Aqua Slidecoaster, and the all-new Moon Climber and Luna Midway activities; as well as adult-only experiences like the late-night production of ‘LunaTique™,’ Norwegian Luna is the perfect ship for multigenerational travelers looking for a warm vacation in the tropics. With itineraries designed to bring guests to Great Stirrup Cay, our private island in the Bahamas, they will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the highly anticipated offerings that our guests are raving about.”
John W. Chidsey, President and CEO, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., added, “Today’s christening of Norwegian Luna marks an important milestone for our Company and a moment of great pride for our entire team. As she prepares for this special voyage, I look forward to the remarkable experiences she will deliver and to the exciting future ahead for our brand and our guests.”
ELLE, godmother and hull artist of Norwegian Luna said, “Celebrating Norwegian Luna as the ship’s godmother is an incredible honor, and creating ‘La Luna’ has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. The moon has always symbolized connection, rhythm and transformation, forces that mirror the journeys we take in our own lives. I hope every guest feels a sense of wonder and possibility as Norwegian Luna carries them toward new horizons.”
Measuring 1,056 feet in length and accommodating up to 3,565 guests, Norwegian Luna is part of NCL’s Prima Class and is designed to offer flexible, experience-driven cruising. The ship features a wide range of attractions, including the Aqua Slidecoaster, a dual-slide attraction with a magnetic lift system, alongside new experiences such as Luna Midway, Moon Climber, and Horizon Park.
Onboard entertainment includes large-scale productions such as “Elton: A Celebration of Elton John™,” “HIKO: Innovation Meets Wonder™,” and “A Tribute to Eagles™,” alongside the adult-only late-night show “LunaTique™.” Family-focused programming includes immersive experiences such as “Sea of Discovery! An Under-the-Sea Festival.”
