Mammoth Lakes Tourism has appointed Brian Wright as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, marking a new phase of leadership for the organisation and the Mammoth Lakes community.
Wright’s selection follows a nationwide search led by an ad hoc committee of the Board of Directors, which incorporated inputs from stakeholders across the lodging, dining and broader tourism sectors to identify a leader aligned with the destination’s long-term vision.
He succeeds former President and CEO John Urdi, whose departure prompted a strategic transition aimed at ensuring continued growth and alignment with community priorities.
Pat Foster, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said, “After a comprehensive search process, we were blown away by the level of talent and interest in promoting and protecting Mammoth Lakes. Brian not only checked every box but exceeded our expectations. His strategic vision, industry relationships, global perspective, local understanding, and genuine enthusiasm for the role set him apart. We have full confidence in his leadership and are excited for what’s ahead for Mammoth Lakes Tourism and our community.”
As President and CEO, Wright will lead Mammoth Lakes Tourism’s strategic direction, working closely with the MLT staff, Board of Directors, town leadership, local businesses, and regional partners to advance the destination. He will guide destination marketing, partner engagement, and stewardship efforts while strengthening the partnerships that support Mammoth Lakes’ tourism economy. The role is central to shaping the next phase of growth for Mammoth Lakes as a year-round destination, while balancing community priorities, responsible visitation, and long-term economic sustainability.
Wright brings more than 25 years of leadership experience across destination marketing, tourism, and the outdoor industry, including roles at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Yosemite National Park, Visit California, Santa Monica Travel & Tourism, and Mammoth Lakes Tourism. A proven brand and growth strategist, he has led multi-million-dollar budgets, advanced air service and global strategies, and driven growth through community-focused leadership.
Commenting on his appointment, Brian Wright, said, “Mammoth Lakes represents everything that makes a place truly special: access to the outdoors, a strong sense of community, and a deep connection to the environment. I’m incredibly honored to step into this role and to work alongside a team I respect and community I love to ensure tourism continues to support and enhance what makes Mammoth Lakes such a remarkable place. My focus is on listening, building trust, and advancing a thoughtful, sustainable approach that reflects the values of the people who live and work here.”
