Lufthansa pilots’ union calls 48-hour strike starting today

Lufthansa

Lufthansa has announced widespread flight disruptions following a short-notice strike called by the pilot union Vereinigung Cockpit, scheduled for April 13 and 14, 2026.

The strike, which began at 12:01 am on Monday and is set to continue until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, has led to the cancellation of approximately 800 flights across domestic and international routes, impacting around 100,000 passengers. Major hubs including Frankfurt and Munich have reported significant disruptions, with travellers facing long queues, last-minute rescheduling and uncertainty.

Lufthansa stated that it is working intensively to minimise the impact on passengers by operating as many flights as possible through other airlines within the Lufthansa Group and partner carriers.

The airline has advised affected passengers that they will be proactively informed via email by April 12 regarding cancellations or rebookings. Travellers have been urged to check their flight status on the airline’s official website before heading to the airport and ensure their contact details are updated.

Passengers who booked through travel agents have been advised to contact their agents directly for assistance.

Lufthansa has also announced flexible rebooking and refund options. Passengers holding tickets issued on or before April 11, 2026, for Lufthansa-operated flights on April 13 and 14, may rebook free of charge to alternative Lufthansa Group flights between April 11 and 21 or request a full refund by April 13 through the airline’s Help and Contact Centre.

The airline noted that service centres are experiencing high call volumes and encouraged passengers to use digital channels for faster assistance.
