The administration of Lakshadweep has introduced key relaxations to its entry permit process for tourists, aimed at simplifying procedures while maintaining security protocols.

According to a circular issued by the island administration on April 29, 2026, sponsorship is no longer required for Tourist category applications. Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) is no longer required to be uploaded for Tourist category applications.

Instead, background verification will be undertaken by the Lakshadweep Police as part of the permit approval process.

Additionally, each application form can include up to six applicants, streamlining group travel planning. Applicants are required to submit permit requests at least 14 days prior to travel, specifying the exact islands they intend to visit, including any transit points. Entry will be restricted strictly to the islands mentioned in the permit, with designated transit points such as Kavaratti or Agatti, where transit duration is limited to 12 hours.

Authorities have advised travellers to confirm permits before booking flights to avoid disruptions.
