In the wake of the devastating natural calamity that recently struck Wayanad district, the Kerala Tourism Department has announced the cancellation of the Onam Week Celebrations and the Champion’s Boat League (CBL) races. The decision was made in light of the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas, according to Tourism Minister Shri P. A. Mohamed Riyas.
“The magnitude of the disaster suffered by Wayanad is unprecedented,” Minister Riyas stated. “Over 200 lives have been confirmed lost, and many are still reported missing. In view of the grim tragedy inflicted by this massive disaster, these important annual events are being dropped.”
