Karnataka’s luxury tourist train, the Golden Chariot, resumed its operations on December 21, 2024, marking a significant milestone after a six-year hiatus. The train departed from Yeshwanthpur Railway Station’s Platform-6 in Bengaluru, embarking on its maiden five-day journey to Kochi. The relaunch was officiated by Karnataka Tourism Minister H K Patil, who flagged off the train amid much fanfare.
“This luxury train will provide an unparalleled travel experience to tourists, showcasing the cultural richness and scenic beauty of Karnataka and South India,” Minister Patil stated. He expressed optimism that the Golden Chariot would reclaim its international acclaim as one of the world’s finest luxury trains.
Owned by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) and operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the Golden Chariot now features enhanced amenities and new itineraries. It offers three distinct packages, covering iconic tourist destinations across Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. The train boasts 11 coaches, each named after historic dynasties such as the Kadambas, Hoysalas, and Chalukyas, reflecting Karnataka’s rich heritage.
With accommodations for 88 passengers, the train’s ultra-luxury amenities include four-room coaches, two gourmet restaurants—Ruchi and Nalapaak—serving Indian and Continental cuisine, free Wi-Fi, a lounge bar, and a fitness center.
