Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to resume on June 30 after five-year suspension

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

After a five-year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the revered Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to resume on June 30, 2025, according to an official announcement. The pilgrimage will follow the traditional route through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, which lies at an elevation of 17,000 feet.

The yatra, a significant spiritual journey for many Hindus, had been suspended since 2020. Its revival has been made possible through the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. A recent meeting in New Delhi, conducted in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Uttarakhand government, finalised arrangements. The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) has been appointed as the organising body.

This year, 250 pilgrims divided into five groups of 50 will undertake the journey. The first group will cross into China through Lipulekh Pass on July 10, and the final group is scheduled to return to India by August 22. Each group will follow a 22-day itinerary beginning in Delhi, with stops in Tanakpur, Dharchula, Gunji, and Nabhidang before reaching Taklakot in Tibet.

Health check-ups for all participants will be conducted in Delhi and Gunji to ensure the well-being of the pilgrims during the high-altitude journey. On the return leg, pilgrims will pass through Bundi, Chaukori, and Almora before concluding their journey in Delhi.

Located in Tibet, Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar hold deep religious significance for Hindus, who believe that circumambulating the mountain and bathing in the sacred lake can lead to spiritual liberation.
