The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2025 will commence in June and continue until August, marking the resumption of the sacred pilgrimage after a four-year suspension. The Yatra was initially halted in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the suspension continued due to the military standoff on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs and Environment, Forest and Climate Change, conducted the computerized draw for the selection of pilgrims (Yatris). The selection was carried out through a fair, computer-generated, random, and gender-balanced process. Out of 5,561 applicants—including 4,024 men and 1,537 women—a total of 750 Yatris, including two Liaison Officers per batch, were selected to participate in the Yatra.
The Yatra will proceed in 15 batches of 50 Yatris each—five batches via the Lipulekh route and ten via the Nathu La route. Notably, both routes are now fully motorable, significantly reducing the need for trekking and enhancing accessibility for participants.
In his remarks, MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh emphasized the government’s continued efforts to ensure that the Yatra remains safe, transparent, and accessible, reflecting a commitment to pilgrims’ well-being. He encouraged Yatris to undertake the sacred journey with responsibility, humility, and mindfulness, urging them to respect each other and preserve the sanctity of the natural environment.
The Kailash Manasarovar Yatra remains one of the most revered spiritual pilgrimages, drawing devotees from across the country to embark on a transformative journey through the majestic Himalayas.
