The Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan celebrated the 80th Independence Day of Jordan at The Leela Palace New Delhi on June 11, 2026. Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, attended the event as the Chief Guest alongside diplomats, government representatives, business leaders and distinguished guests, reaffirming the growing partnership between Jordan and India.
Jordan gained independence on May 25, 1946, marking the end of British rule and the establishment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This year’s celebrations also coincided with the 27th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah II’s accession to the throne and Jordanian Arab Army Day.
Addressing the gathering, H.E. Mr. Yousef Abdelghani, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to India, reflected on the significance of the milestone. He said, “For Jordanian, independence is not merely a historic event to remember. It’s a symbol of unyielding will, dignity, pride, and the bedrock upon which we build a state of institutions and law that represents our renewed vow to safeguard our sovereignty and forge a bright future with confidence and resolve.”
The Ambassador highlighted Jordan’s modernization efforts, investment opportunities and commitment to regional peace. Referring to bilateral relations, he noted that Jordan and India celebrated 75 years of diplomatic ties last year and said, “India has become Jordan’s third trade partner, and trade between the two countries reached almost three billion dollars, with a firm aspirations to elevate it to five billion dollars within the coming years.”
