Japan visa update: Walk-in submissions discontinued in four South Indian cities

Japan Visa

VFS Global has announced that appointment booking will become mandatory for all categories of Japan visa application submissions effective March 2, 2026, at its Visa Application Centres in Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad and Puducherry.

The move brings an end to the long-standing walk-in system that many applicants had relied upon. According to the announcement, the revised process is aimed at streamlining application submissions, reducing overcrowding at centres and ensuring a more structured and organised experience for travellers planning to visit Japan.

Applicants seeking to submit Japan visa applications at the specified centres will now be required to secure a prior appointment before visiting the facility. The updated system is expected to enhance operational efficiency and improve overall service standards at the visa application centres.
