The Japanese government has announced a revision of its visa fees, with the new charges set to come into effect from July 1, 2026, under the revised Passport Act.
The decision was announced by Japan’s Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu during a press conference held on June 19, following a ministerial meeting on the revision of visa fees.
Under the revised fee structure, Japan has increased its visa fees fivefold. The single-entry visa fee will increase from 3,000 yen to 15,000 yen, while the multiple-entry visa fee will rise from 6,000 yen to 30,000 yen.
The revised fees will apply only to visa applications submitted on or after July 1, 2026. Applications filed before this date will continue to be processed under the existing fee structure.
The revision marks a significant increase in Japan’s visa charges and will affect international travellers applying for Japanese visas from July onwards.
