IndiGo sets sights on global leadership with bold FY26 plans and IATA AGM 2025 hosting

IndiGo Press Briefing

IndiGo today held a press briefing at the Shangri-La Eros, New Delhi, to announce its ambitious plans for FY26, as it prepares to host the 81st IATA AGM in India from June 1-3, 2025, a significant milestone, marking the AGM’s return to India after more than three decades!

IndiGo Press Briefing

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, said, “An immense pride in bringing back and showcasing to the rest of the world that the India of 2025 is markedly different than the India of 1983. Today, India is the third, third largest domestic aviation market in the world, and IndiGo is proud to be the airline with world’s largest order book in terms of new aircraft, a little over 900 planes on order. There’s no single airline in the world with an order book as IndiGo has. And why is it so relevant? Because aviation, at the end of the day, translates as a force for good for the country.”

IndiGo is making significant strides this year in its evolution towards becoming a major global airline by 2030. Building on its core strengths of capacity growth, efficient operations, and a sharp focus on cost leadership, the airline has been consistently enhancing its network in India and abroad. IndiGo is forging strong partnerships, expanding its product portfolio, and enhancing the customer experience to deliver on its global value proposition. This aligns with IndiGo’s commitment to supporting India’s ambition to become a global aviation hub. As the host airline for the IATA AGM 2025, IndiGo is excited to welcome the global aviation fraternity to India’s capital city.

Pieter Elbers stated, “India is amongst the fastest growing aviation markets in the world; and as the largest Indian airline, IndiGo is committed to consistently increase its contribution to this growth. The financial year 2025 has been a pivotal year in our journey as we took significant steps in our evolution into a truly global airline. This includes introduction of IndiGoStretch, our tailor-made business offering, and BlueChip, our loyalty program, besides sizeable network expansion in the domestic as well as international market.”

He added, “We are focused on our holistic growth to be able to offer affordable, convenient, on-time travel experience to our customers on a growing domestic and international route network. We also remain determined to maintain our cost leadership while continuously enhancing our operational efficiency and profitability, thereby, ensuring strong returns on our shareholders’ trust, support and investment.”

Fleet Expansion

With one new aircraft joining the fleet every week throughout FY26, IndiGo anticipates surpassing a fleet size of 600 aircraft by 2030. The airline has also signed an agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for the damp lease of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, with deliveries expected by early 2026 and the arrival of A350s in 2027. FY26 will also mark the arrival of the long-range A321XLR aircraft in IndiGo’s fleet, opening doors to new long-range international markets not previously connected directly to India.

Network Expansion

IndiGo plans to add 10 new international destinations to its route network over the coming year, bringing the total to over 50 international destinations. Long-haul operations will commence with non-stop, direct flights connecting Mumbai with Manchester and Amsterdam starting July 2025. As the fleet of damp-leased B787s expands, the airline plans to add long-haul routes to London and Copenhagen.

With the arrival of A321XLR aircraft, IndiGo will further build its European network, including direct connectivity to Athens. The airline also plans to enhance its regional international network with four more Central Asian destinations and will re-activate services to Almaty and Tashkent from Mumbai. Tbilisi will see additional capacity from Mumbai, and direct flights to Siem Reap will mark IndiGo’s entry into the India-Cambodia market. Additional capacity will also be added to Denpasar Bali, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi.

Domestically, IndiGo plans to expand its network from 91 to 95 destinations, adding four more stations, including Adampur Airport in Jalandhar and Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad. IndiGo will be the first airline to start operations at Navi Mumbai International Airport and Noida International Airport in Jewar.

Strengthening Operations

IndiGo signed an MoU with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) to build a state-of-the-art MRO facility on 31 acres of land. This facility will support narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, enhancing IndiGo’s operational efficiency and maintenance capabilities.

Partnerships

IndiGo is actively expanding its global reach through partnerships, including the reciprocal relationship with Japan Airlines, which will soon see IndiGo placing its marketing flight codes on Japan Airlines flights in Southeast Asia and Tokyo.

Enhancing Customer Experience

IndiGo launched its tailor-made business product, IndiGoStretch, in November 2024, currently available on 140 daily flights on key domestic routes. By the end of the year, 40-45 aircraft will feature IndiGoStretch. Starting June 29, 2025, IndiGo will roll out the IndiGoStretch product on select regional international markets. Additionally, customers on long-haul flights to Manchester and Amsterdam will enjoy specially curated, complimentary hot meals and beverages by iconic Indian brands.

Financial Performance

In FY25, IndiGo achieved a revenue growth of 18 per cent, with a topline of INR 841 billion, entering the $10 billion revenue club globally. The airline also reported a net profit of INR 72,584 million for FY25 (a 9 per cent margin), including a record quarterly profit of INR 30,675 million for Q4.

Pieter Elbers concluded, “Today’s set of ambitious announcements for FY26 are yet another important step for IndiGo. Adding 14 new destinations (10 international and 4 domestic), growing partnerships with airlines and airports will not only be greatly beneficial to our customers but also at the very heart of our purpose of giving wings to the nation.”
