IndiGo has become the first Indian carrier to induct the Airbus A321XLR into its fleet, marking a significant milestone in its long-term international growth strategy. The long-range narrow-body aircraft arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, on Wednesday morning.
The aircraft will be deployed on IndiGo’s upcoming non-stop services connecting Mumbai to Athens from January 23, 2026, and Delhi to Athens from January 24, 2026, with thrice-weekly frequencies on both routes.
The Airbus A321XLR, the latest evolution of the A321neo family, offers a range of up to 8,700 kilometres along with enhanced fuel efficiency, enabling airlines to operate longer international routes while maintaining cost efficiency. IndiGo’s A321XLR is configured in a dual-class layout, featuring 12 IndiGoStretch seats and 183 Economy Class seats, both equipped with ergonomically designed RECARO seating to enhance comfort on long-duration flights.
Of IndiGo’s total firm order of 40 A321XLR aircraft, nine are expected to be delivered during calendar year 2026. Following its initial deployment on non-stop services to Athens, subsequent aircraft will operate on existing routes such as Istanbul and Denpasar (Bali). Future deliveries will support the airline’s expansion into new long-haul markets across Europe and East Asia.

The IndiGo A321XLR Experience
IndiGo’s Airbus A321XLR features 12 IndiGoStretch seats in a 2×2 configuration with a 44-inch seat pitch and six-inch recline, while the Economy cabin offers 183 seats with a 31-inch pitch and five-inch recline. The aircraft is equipped with advanced RECARO seating, including adjustable headrests, improved cushioning, lumbar support, integrated device holders, in-seat power supply and coat hooks, delivering a wide-body-like comfort on a single-aisle aircraft.
The airline has partnered with Bluebox to offer a next-generation digital inflight entertainment experience, allowing customers to access a wide range of Indian and international films, TV shows, games, anime and animated content on their personal devices.
Complimentary hot meals and beverages inspired by local and global flavours will be served to all customers on these routes. Vegetarian meals will be offered by default, with non-vegetarian options available for pre-booking. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase in Economy Class and offered complimentary to IndiGoStretch customers.
