The Government of France has operationalised visa-free airside transit for Indian nationals passing through its airports in European territory, effective April 10, 2026.
The move follows an announcement by Emmanuel Macron during his visit to India in February 2026, where he indicated that measures would be introduced to ease travel for Indian nationals transiting via France.
Subsequently, a decree amending the regulation of May 10, 2010, concerning entry requirements for foreign nationals was adopted and published in the Official Gazette on April 9, 2026.
Under the revised framework, Indian nationals holding ordinary passports are no longer required to obtain an airport transit visa when passing through the international zone of French airports, provided they remain within the transit area while travelling to a third country.
The press statement said that the policy change is also aligned with discussions between President Macron and Narendra Modi, reflecting the strengthening bilateral partnership and a shared focus on enhancing ease of travel and people-to-people connectivity between the two countries.
