Charter flights to fill the void during Bagdogra Airport technical closure

0

The Bagdogra airport had previously announced that flight operations would be suspended from April 11 to April 25, 2022, to allow for crack repairs and runway refurbishment. Thousands of tourists pass through the airport each year on their route to the hill stations of Gangtok, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong, Mirik, and other parts of North Bengal. For the time being, this could have an impact on travel and tourism in the region. This could reasonably impact travel and tourism in the region for the period.

In this regard, Udaan Hotels and Resorts, a chain of hotels in the Northeast, and AirIQ.in, a pre-purchase and series fares company have announced that they will be operating special daily charter flight from April 12 – April 24, 2022, for the Kolkata – Pakyong – Kolkata sector due to the closure of Bagdogra Airport. This charter will be a convenient mode of travel for all the passengers travelling to Sikkim and Darjeeling on holidays and for business and other purposes.

There is always high traffic between Kolkata and North Bengal and thus heavy demand for Bagdogra flights. With the airport shutdown on the given dates, there is still a possibility of people wanting to travel and the demand remaining constant. The charter flights will cater to this demand.

A 70-seater aircraft will be deployed for the charter flights, which will depart Kolkata at 10.30 am and reach Pakyong at 11.40 pm, while the return flight will depart Pakyong at noon and reach Kolkata at 1.30 pm.

Udaan Hotels has six hotels in this sector. With these charter flights, they are giving tourists and business travellers an option to continue their travel and ensuring that tourism does not suffer completely due to the technical closure of Bagdogra airport.
