Early this morning, heavy rainfall led to the collapse of a portion of the canopy at the old Departure forecourt of Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1. The incident occurred around 5 am, resulting in the tragic death of one person and injuries to several others. The collapsing roof fell on cars, including taxis, causing further damage and injuries.

Emergency personnel are on the scene, providing necessary assistance and medical aid to those affected. The airport authorities have temporarily suspended all departures from Terminal 1, and the check-in counters are closed as a safety measure.

All departing and arriving flights from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 remain fully operational. Arriving flights at Terminal 1 are also operating, but departing flights from Terminal 1 are cancelled until 2 pm today.

IndiGo Airlines issued a statement reassuring passengers, “We’d like to reassure you that we’re here to assist you with alternate flight options or a full refund. We might take slightly longer than usual to respond as our contact centers are experiencing high volumes.”

SpiceJet also addressed the situation, “Due to bad weather (heavy rains), SpiceJet flights have been canceled as Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport will remain partially closed for operations until further notice. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
