Bhitarkanika’s complex waterways, created by the ancient king of Kanika to defend against sea pirates and for hunting, add historical intrigue to the natural beauty. This mangrove ecosystem protects the coastline from erosion and provides a nurturing ground for a variety of marine and land species, including saltwater crocodiles, Indian pythons, king cobras, spotted deer, wild boars, and migratory birds from Central Asia and Siberia.
