Air India has announced the launch of two new international routes as part of its continued network expansion across Asia. The airline will introduce non-stop flights between Delhi and Hanoi from May 1, 2026, and between Mumbai and Tokyo (Haneda) from June 15, 2026.

With the new service, Hanoi becomes Air India’s second gateway in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City. The Delhi–Hanoi route will operate five times a week using Airbus A320neo aircraft, featuring Business Class, Premium Economy and Economy Class cabins. The new route will add more than 7,000 seats per month between India and Vietnam.

The additional service will also enable travellers to plan flexible open-jaw itineraries in Vietnam, allowing entry through Hanoi and departure from Ho Chi Minh City, or vice versa. Flights on this route will offer convenient onward connections through Air India’s domestic and international network, including services to the United Kingdom and other destinations across Europe.

Further strengthening connectivity with Japan, Air India will launch four weekly non-stop flights between Mumbai and Tokyo Haneda Airport using Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The new service will complement the airline’s existing Delhi–Tokyo (Haneda) route.

Air India recently increased frequency on the Delhi–Tokyo route from four weekly flights to seven weekly flights and introduced upgraded cabin products on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, including Premium Economy for the first time on the sector. Passengers travelling to Japan will benefit from enhanced onboard features such as modern inflight entertainment systems, Wi-Fi connectivity and refreshed dining options.

Through its codeshare partnership with All Nippon Airways, Air India passengers arriving at Tokyo Haneda will have access to onward connections to six major Japanese cities including Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Nagoya, Okinawa, Osaka and Sapporo.

Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India, said, “Since Air India’s privatisation, we have significantly grown our network across Southeast Asia and the Far East, having added several new routes, optimised flight schedules to enable convenient cross-continent connections, forged new partnerships with other carriers, and deploying upgraded cabin products progressively.”

He added, “Japan and Vietnam have both emerged as fast-growing destinations for Indian travellers, while India’s economic and commercial ties with both nations continue to deepen and present more opportunities for business and trade on both sides. The launch of these new routes supports this growth and strengthens our presence in the region.”

According to the Japan National Tourism Organisation, more than 315,000 Indian travellers visited Japan in 2025, marking a 35 per cent increase compared to 2024 and nearly 80 per cent growth over pre-pandemic levels.

Meanwhile, Vietnam continues to see strong tourism growth, recording over 20 million international visitors in 2025 and ranking among Southeast Asia’s most visited destinations.
