Air India has commenced operations of its newest Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Mumbai-London Heathrow route, introducing the airline’s latest-generation cabin product on one of its flagship international services.

Flights AI131/AI130 between Mumbai and London Heathrow will be operated by Air India’s new Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring all-new cabin interiors designed exclusively for the airline and installed directly on Boeing’s production line. These are the first line-fit Boeing 787 aircraft purpose-built for Air India, reflecting the carrier’s upgraded standards in comfort, technology and onboard experience.

The deployment also marks the introduction of Premium Economy on the Mumbai-London Heathrow route, giving passengers the choice of Business, Premium Economy and Economy cabins.

Air India’s second daily Mumbai-London Heathrow service will continue to be operated by its upgraded Boeing 777-300ER, featuring First Class, ensuring customers across both daily flights benefit from enhanced onboard products.

The new Boeing 787-9 features a three-class configuration comprising 30 Business Class suites, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy seats, combining contemporary interiors, advanced technology and Indian-inspired design.

Business Class passengers will enjoy private suites with direct aisle access, fully flat 79-inch beds, wireless charging, generous storage space and a 17-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen entertainment system.

The newly introduced Premium Economy cabin features a 2-3-2 seating layout, 38-inch seat pitch, wider seats, enhanced recline, adjustable headrests, leg and calf rests, along with a 13.3-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen for added comfort on long-haul flights.

Economy Class offers ergonomically designed seats, improved comfort, integrated personal device holders and an 11.6-inch 4K QLED HDR touchscreen entertainment system.

Across all cabins, passengers will benefit from the Thales AVANT Up in-flight entertainment platform, featuring Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets and an intuitive user interface. Guests can also pair their own Bluetooth-enabled headphones to access over 3,000 hours of entertainment content.

Additional upgrades include mood lighting inspired by ancient Indian wellness traditions, refreshed dining menus featuring Indian and international cuisine, premium tableware, upgraded bedding and redesigned amenity kits.

The United Kingdom remains one of Air India’s largest international markets, driven by strong business, leisure and VFR traffic. The airline currently operates 57 weekly non-stop flights between India and the UK, connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and Amritsar with London Heathrow, London Gatwick and Birmingham.

Through its hubs in India, Air India also offers seamless onward connectivity to destinations across the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia, further strengthening its international network.
