According to the latest Amex Trendex India findings released by American Express, 97 per cent of Indians are planning to travel during the upcoming festive and holiday season, with 33 per cent having already booked their trips. The survey highlights that leisure travel is the top motivation for 63 per cent of respondents, followed by the desire to explore new destinations (54 per cent) and reconnect with family and friends (27 per cent).
The study also shows that Indian travellers are willing to invest in a more convenient and enjoyable experience, with 94 per cent expressing a readiness to spend more for enhanced travel. Reflecting a focus on value, 73 per cent of Indian travellers plan to use travel credit card rewards, airline miles, or loyalty points to manage costs during the holiday season.
Domestic travel remains the top choice for Indian holiday-goers, with 88 per cent opting for trips within India. However, international travel is also on the radar for 61 per cent of travellers.

In addition to travel, Indian adults are highly focused on holiday shopping and gifting. An overwhelming 98 per cent plan to buy gifts this season, with family (73 per cent) and friends (65 per cent) as the top recipients. Popular gift choices include clothing and accessories (73 per cent each) followed by tech products (55 per cent). Meanwhile, 66 per cent of Indians are opting for experiences like entertainment and travel as gifts.
The desire for unique and personalised gifting is evident, with 92 per cent actively seeking one-of-a-kind gifts, while 88 per cent prefer shopping at stores that offer reward programs. The study also found that many Indians are turning to holiday discounts (64 per cent) and sales events (59 per cent), with 49 per cent specifically looking for credit card offers to enhance their gift-buying experience.
The global survey was conducted across multiple countries including India, Australia, Canada, Japan, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
This poll was conducted between June 21 and July 17, 2024, among a sample of 1001 Indian adults who have at least a $50k+ income equivalent and typically travel at least once a year. The interviews were conducted online. Results from the full survey have a margin of error of plus or minus 2-4 percentage points.
